Providing strategic guidance to our work in vaccine development
PATH’s work on developing vaccines against influenza is guided by a scientific advisory board. We invited key experts to join the advisory board to provide strategic input in conducting a process of technology evaluation, selection, and prioritization for project support. We then began collaborating with private- and public-sector partners to advance the development of several of the most promising vaccine candidates. The board continues to play a key role in this process, meeting regularly to discuss the vaccine portfolio and address technical issues, review data and progress made to-date, and provide recommendations on issues as they arise.
The following is a list of the scientific advisory board members for the influenza vaccine development project:
- Ashley Birkett, PhD, Director, Preclinical Research and Development, PATH’s Malaria Vaccine Initiative
- Martin Friede, PhD, Scientific Officer, World Health Organization
- William C. Gruber, MD, Vice President, Clinical Research, Wyeth Vaccines Research
- Roland Levandowski, MD, FACP, Infectious Diseases Physician, Bethesda, Maryland
- Janet McElhaney, MD, FRCPC, FACP, Associate Professor, University of Connecticut Health Center, and Professor, Division Head Geriatric Medicine, University of British Columbia
