Innovative contraceptive technologies featured at the International Conference on Family Planning
PATH's groundbreaking work on new and improved contraceptive technologies designed to increase women's access to family planning options in low-resource settings will be highlighted at the third International Conference on Family Planning in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 12 to 15.
The conference is focused on the theme "Full Access, Full Choice" and is expected to draw up to 4,000 international participants, including researchers, policymakers, and donors, to spotlight successes and challenges in family planning. It will be cohosted by The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.
Spotlighting three contraceptive technologies
On November 14, PATH will join a press conference panel to discuss our introduction plans for three contraceptive technologies advanced by PATH and our partners: Sayana® Press, a new form of injectable contraceptive in the PATH-developed Uniject™ autodisable injection system; the Woman's Condom, a PATH-designed female condom; and the SILCS diaphragm, a single-sized, easy-to-use barrier contraceptive.
The three innovations also will be discussed as part of several panels, poster sessions, and oral abstract presentations that will explore introduction strategies, cost-effectiveness, and demand and acceptability among users.
Reception highlights work of UN commission
At a preconference reception on November 12, Dwan Dixon, leader of PATH's Ethiopia Country Program, will moderate a panel showcasing efforts by the United Nations Commission on Life-saving Commodities for Women and Children to expand access to commodities across the continuum of care, from reproductive, maternal, and newborn health to child health. PATH staff also will participate in conference sessions on strategies to increase donor commitment and coordination to help scale up family planning interventions and approaches to shaping markets for family planning commodities.
