XVI International AIDS Conference driven by determination, shared resources

The International AIDS Conference, the world’s largest conference on HIV and AIDS, is taking place in Toronto, Canada, this week (August 13–18, 2006). PATH staff will join colleagues from around the world to build a stronger and more effective global response to HIV/AIDS.

PATH at the conference

As a leader in prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), PATH is convening a satellite meeting on the role of infant feeding in PMTCT programs. PATH staff are also delivering presentations and joining poster sessions about HIV and tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS programming in India and Ukraine, microbicides, HIV/AIDS and sexuality education, and HIV/AIDS prevention methods in Central and South America, Africa, and Asia.

Time to deliver

Held every two years, the conference is a unique opportunity for activists, government representatives, public health experts, and scientists to discuss the latest advances in HIV/AIDS prevention, public policy, and treatment and care—and to set an agenda for continuing action.

This year’s conference theme is time to deliver—emphasizing the continued and urgent need to bring effective HIV prevention and treatment strategies to communities around the world. Scientific knowledge and tools to prevent new infections and prolong life among those living with HIV and AIDS already exist, even in the poorest settings. PATH shares the determination of our colleagues at the conference to bring additional resources and continued scientific research to bear in making treatment and prevention programs broadly available—not someday, but now.
