PATH helps inaugurate Indian cancer institute

Dr. John Sellors, senior medical advisor at PATH, was the guest of honor at the inauguration ceremony of the new branch of the Indian Council of Medical Research’s Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology in New Delhi, India, this week. Dr. Sellors spoke about cervical cancer and the significance of the new vaccines for human papillomavirus control. India’s Minister of Health joined Dr. Sellors on the podium.

India has been a major partner in PATH’s work to develop diagnostic tools that work in settings where traditional screening methods are not available, and we are honored to be included in this significant event. The Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology was established in 1989 to promote research into cancers that are most prevalent in India, with an emphasis on their early detection and prevention. The Institute has since made significant contributions in the field of cervical cancer research.
