Microbicides 2008 conference to highlight PATH's efforts

In late February, microbicide researchers, public health workers, and advocacy organizations will gather in New Delhi, India, for Microbicides 2008. Held every other year, this conference provides updates on recent microbicide research and addresses new developments in microbicide research including basic science, clinical, social science, behavioral, community, and advocacy issues.

At the conference, the Global Campaign for Microbicides, based at PATH, and our partners will share our work related to microbicides—topical products that may one day allow women to protect themselves against HIV. Today, more than 50 percent of new HIV infections occur among women. A successful microbicide would allow women in developing countries to have more power to protect themselves against infection.

As a unifying force for more than 55 partner groups and 200 endorsing organizations around the world, the Global Campaign is increasing knowledge about and mobilizing support for microbicides.

PATH staff attending Microbicides 2008 will present information at conference sessions, panel events, and poster presentations. In addition, staff will host the Advocate’s Corner, an interactive networking area for conference delegates to exchange ideas, share information and materials, and build community.
