Japan launches new fund for global health
The Japanese Government today launched the Global Health Innovation and Technology Fund (GHIT Fund) with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and several pharmaceutical companies. PATH joins a robust coalition of international organizations in endorsing Japan’s approach to improving global health through collaboration among nonprofit organizations, government, and the private sector.
“PATH commends Japan on its commitment to improving public health around the world,” said Steve Davis, president and CEO of PATH. “The Global Health Innovation and Technology Fund is an exciting opportunity to forge new cross-sector partnerships to advance innovative global health solutions.”
The GHIT Fund is Japan’s first public-private partnership designed to advance global health solutions in poor countries. Through funding the creation, implementation, and scale-up of innovative tools, the GHIT Fund will support efforts to address health challenges such as diarrheal disease, malaria, and maternal and child health and nutrition.
