Sounding the alarm on a global killer
Diarrheal disease is a growing global health crisis that receives little attention, but there is plenty that we can do about it. PATH is working with partners to sound the alarm on the millions of needless deaths diarrhea causes every year and to highlight the health, clean water, and sanitation solutions available to stop diarrhea now.
More than 80 organizations have already joined a call to action, issued by PATH and the US Coalition for Child Survival, to confront diarrheal disease. Several events over the next few weeks will emphasize the need for renewed attention to controlling diarrhea and highlight countries and programs that are directly and successfully fighting this common killer.
Call to action
PATH is leading the charge to bring together partners with a stake in global health and development who believe that implementing diarrheal disease control measures—such as water and sanitation interventions, improved hydration, and better nutrition—can improve health and living conditions for communities around the world. The call to action demonstrates a unified show of support from the health, water and sanitation, and environmental sectors for aggressively meeting the challenge of diarrheal disease. PATH and the US Coalition for Child Survival invite all interested organizations to sign on.
Public forum
On May 12, PATH and WaterAid America will host a public forum in Washington, DC, entitled Defeating a Global Killer: The Need for Action on Diarrheal Disease. The discussion will explore the actions that the international aid community must take to solve the problem of diarrheal disease. In tandem with the event, both organizations will release reports that outline the approaches and resources necessary to stem the tide of diarrheal deaths.
