Boston University’s School of Pubic Health has honored Dr. Ayo Ajayi, PATH’s vice president of field programs, with its 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recognizes graduates who have made outstanding contributions to the field of global health.
Ajayi graduated from Boston University in 1982 with a master’s degree in public health. A native of Nigeria, he was the School of Public Health’s first-ever international student. Before getting his MPH, he earned his MD from the University of Ibadan Medical School in Nigeria.
Ajayi joined PATH in 2008 and currently leads strategy development and implementation for PATH’s country programs in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. He represents the organization both nationally and internationally and serves as the primary liaison between PATH headquarters and our field offices. Before joining PATH, he worked for 16 years with the Population Council, serving as regional director for sub-Saharan Africa, and previously worked for Pathfinder International and as a government health officer in Nigeria.
