Vaccines: the global health miracle
Vaccines are among the world’s top lifesaving health interventions. Increased investment in vaccines and immunization systems, Bill Gates told the World Health Assembly earlier this year, could give us the chance to prevent 10 million deaths by 2020.
The World Affairs Council is hosting a public event in Seattle, “Vaccines: the global health miracle,” on Wednesday, June 22. PATH President and CEO Dr. Christopher J. Elias will moderate a panel of local and global vaccine leaders as they discuss the benefits of vaccination and why Gates has called this the decade of vaccines.
Panel features GAVI Alliance’s interim CEO
The panel includes Helen Evans, interim CEO of the GAVI Alliance; Dr. Alan Aderem, director of Seattle BioMed; Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta, founding chair, Division of Women and Child Health, Aga Khan University; and Dr. David Fleming, director and health officer, Public Health—Seattle & King County.
The event, sponsored by PATH, Seattle BioMed, and the Washington Global Health Alliance, will be held at the Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a networking reception, with the program scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tickets for students and WAC members are $10; $15 for nonmembers. Purchase tickets online through the World Affairs Council website.
