Focus on vaccines at Pacific Health Summit
At a time of unprecedented investment and interest in vaccines, PATH will join other leaders in global health to consider the profound impact and promise of vaccines at the 2011 Pacific Health Summit.
The annual Pacific Health Summit gathers decision-makers in business, medicine, public health, and public policy to focus on an issue of critical importance to health. At the 2011 summit, to be held June 21–23 in Seattle, participants will debate challenges and opportunities in vaccine discovery, development, and delivery.
Participants will discuss the changing landscape of the vaccine field, the evolving roles of different stakeholders, and the implications for the future of research, development, manufacturing, funding, delivery, and distribution of vaccines. The conference aims to provide a launching pad for innovation, collaboration, and investment in critical global health issues.
PATH at the Pacific Health Summit
PATH’s president and CEO, Dr. Christopher J. Elias, will serve as a panelist for a session on “Looking ahead: a global vision for transforming public health.”
Other PATH staff participating in the 2011 summit include Hugh Chang, director of special initiatives; Scott Jackson, vice president of External Relations; Dr. Jacqueline Sherris, vice president of Global Programs; Rachel Wilson, director of policy and advocacy; Michel Zaffran, Project Optimize director and senior advisor, Immunizations, Vaccines, and Biologicals, World Health Organization; and Jiankang (Jack) Zhang, China Country Program leader.
Public event features vaccine leaders
Dr. Elias also will serve as moderator and commentator during a public event on “Vaccines: the global health miracle,” to be held Wednesday, June 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Broadway Performance Hall on Capitol Hill in Seattle.
The World Affairs Council event, sponsored by PATH, Seattle BioMed, and the Washington Global Health Alliance, also features Helen Evans, interim CEO of the GAVI Alliance; Dr. Alan Aderem, director of Seattle BioMed; Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta, founding chair, Division of Women and Child Health, Aga Khan University; and Dr. David Fleming, director and health officer, Public Health–Seattle & King County.
