Top NGO honor
PATH is ranked as the sixth best nongovernmental organization (NGO) in the world in a new “top 100” list published by The Global Journal.
The Geneva-based magazine cited our focus on market-based solutions and our collaborative approach, as well as our 35-year track record of advancing innovative technologies and strategies to address a broad range of global health problems. The magazine also noted our key role in the introduction last year of a new vaccine against epidemic meningitis in Africa.
“At the heart of the organization’s approach is a commitment to seeking out new, creative, and affordable technologies, collaborating with dynamic public- and private-sector partners, and delivering sustainable, culturally relevant solutions to address longstanding cycles of poor health globally,” the editors said.
First-of-its-kind ranking
The Global Journal calls its list the first international ranking of its kind. Other NGOs in the top ten are: the Wikimedia Foundation, Partners in Health, Oxfam, BRAC, the International Rescue Committee, CARE International, Médecins Sans Frontières, the Danish Refugee Council, and Ushahidi.
The magazine defined NGOs as operational- or advocacy-focused nonprofit organizations organized on a local, national, or international level. It started with a list of 1,000 NGO candidates and narrowed the list to 100 by reviewing documents, collecting input from donors and experts, and assessing the impact, innovation, transparency, accountability, and efficiency of each organization.
