PATH announced today that Woodrow Myers, Jr., MD, MBA, will join our board of directors. An innovator in health care management and medical quality initiatives, Dr. Myers’ distinguished career has spanned the fields of medicine, education, government, and business. Dr. Myers was elected to the board during its annual meeting at our Seattle headquarters last week.
“PATH is delighted to add Dr. Myers’ experience and expertise to our board of directors,” said Dr. Molly Joel Coye, our interim president and CEO and chair of the board of directors. “Our network of research partners, funders, international health agencies, and other organizations will certainly benefit from his valued input.”
Dr. Myers is a leading voice in health, thanks to his extensive background. Dr. Myers has worked to develop emerging technologies in the areas of diagnostics, safe and affordable pharmaceutical delivery, and health quality assurance. Currently, he serves as a member of the board of directors at the Stanford University Hospitals and Clinics; Genomic Health; LipoScience, Inc.; Express Scripts; and Valitás Health Services. As chairman of the board for the Mozambique Healthcare Consortium, he helped build partnerships among organizations working in Mozambique to improve health conditions. As executive vice president and chief medical officer of WellPoint, Inc., and director of health care management at the Ford Motor Company, Dr. Myers created a Health Quality Assurance Division and implemented global health and safety policies.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Myers served as health commissioner for the city of New York and the state of Indiana, chairman of the visiting committee for the Harvard School of Public Health, and member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers and Stanford University Board of Trustees. He is a member of several other boards, including the Indiana Black Expo; Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana; and the commercial business advisory board for Third Rock Ventures, LLC.
Dr. Myers holds degrees from Harvard Medical School and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He has served on the faculties of the University of California, San Francisco; University of California, Los Angeles; Indiana University School of Medicine; University of Michigan School of Medicine; and Wayne State University School of Medicine.
