Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel
Daniel Laster, JD, is responsible as our chief operating officer for increasing the quality and efficiency of PATH’s operations globally. In that role, he oversees our work in business development, grants and contracts, legal affairs, research ethics, and scientific affairs. As our general counsel, he provides strategic legal counsel to PATH locally and internationally and providwa strategy support for our commercialization activities.
With extensive expertise in intellectual property law, Mr. Laster is also an affiliate professor of law for the University of Washington and a frequent speaker on intellectual property matters. He has served on the boards of the YMCA Metrocenter of Seattle, ACLU of Washington, and Digital Learning Commons.
Before joining PATH, Mr. Laster was an associate professor of law for the University of Washington and acted as an intellectual property expert witness as well as provided independent counsel to various Fortune 500 companies. His career also includes serving as associate general counsel for the Microsoft Corporation and working in private practice at the law firms of Stokes Lawrence and Perkins Coie.
Mr. Laster received his BA in economics from Penn State University and his JD from University of Michigan School of Law; he was a visiting student at Harvard Law School.
